The artist will realize a site-specific work in the village of Santa Gertrude, in Trentino-Alto Adige. Multimedia artist, musician and composer, Norment works with sound, installation, sculpture, drawing, performance and video. She investigates socio-cultural phenomena through music and sound, considered as a force that acts on the body, mind and society. In her performances, Camille performs accordingly as a solo artist, with other musicians, and with her ensemble, the Camille Norment Trio. In 2015, she was selected by the Office for Contemporary Art Norway (OCA) to represent Norway in the Nordic Pavilion of the Venice Biennale. For more info: www.norment.net. Curated by Threes Productions. Her Elpis collaborator is Valerio Panella.
«The work sits in the mountains of Santa Gertude like a guardian of silence and stately witnesses of destruction. Drums have also been long related to power structures and utilized in regiments of war. The drum signal is communication, and it establishes control. The drumstick becomes a phallus of power. In the global anxiety of today, the surreal and wondrous appearance of the installation also resonates with the today’s bewildering sense of uncertaintiy and change.»
The exhibition
Pulse – Single Formation
curated by Valerio Panella
Camille Norment, on the occasion of the Boccata D’Arte 2021 edition, presents a reinterpretation of Pulse Formation in the village of Santa Gertrude, in the municipality of Ultimo, in Trentino Alto Adige, on the mountain path of the town, among the millenary firs and larches of the wood that surrounds it.
The multimedia artist’s work is linked to the notion of cultural psychoacoustics as both an aesthetic and conceptual framework. She defines this term as an investigation of socio-cultural phenomena which, through sound and music, use sound as a force on the body, mind and society.
Although focused on the aesthetic experience, Norment’s work crosses the thresholds of the social and the political at the same time, often using cultural symbols that belong to specific social spheres. Each seemingly harmless element is expanded in the work to reveal a macrocosm of inter-contextual narratives.

Santa Gertrude is a village of 148 residents, part of the municipality of Ultimo, in Val d’Ultimo, in the autonomous province of Bolzano (61 km away) in Trentino-Alto Adige. The Lahner Säge Visitor’s Center was created from an old Venetian sawmill. With its fascinating computer animations, it provides access to all the surrounding forest’s secrets. Just before Santa Gertrude stands the most impressive natural monument in the province of Bolzano: the thousand-year-old larches, with circumferences of about 8.2 m and heights of around 28 m.
