Abbateggio
PE · AbruzzoAbbateggio is a village in Abruzzo with 392 residents in the province of Pescara, which is 40km away. It stands at the base of the Montagna Madre, and is characterized by Tholos, dry stone houses used in the past as shelter for shepherds and flocks. Along with olive trees, spelt has long been the main source of local sustenance; for about twenty years, residents of Abbateggio have held an annual festival dedicated to this grain, attracting a multitude of tourists. The village has an artistic sensibility about it, since for several years it has played privileged host to extemporary painting competitions, along with being the stage for the «Parco Majella» literary prize.
