The villages

Each year, Una Boccata d’Arte selects 20 villages – one for each Italian region – with fewer than 5,000 inhabitants and located in different areas, to rediscover the richness of the entire regionalterritory.

Sociocultural characteristics, historical-artistic heritage, architecture, landscapes, local resources, and artisanal traditions become sources of inspiration for the creation of new contemporary art projects. The artworks, often open-air and site-specific installations, emerge from a direct dialogue between the artists, the local communities, and the places that host them.
Over the course of the editions, more and more municipalities have expressed interest in participating in the initiative by submitting their own applications. More than one-third of the villages involved so far have chosen to make the artworks permanent – thanks to acquisitions by local administrations or donations by the artists – transforming them into cultural heritage accessible to residents and visitors.
